Leadership
Eld. Glenn McKinney Sr. is a native of San Diegan and is the Senior Pastor of St. Stephen’s COGIC, an anchor in San Diego’s inner city founded over 60 years ago by his father, the late Bishop George D. McKinney. Elder McKinney was appointed to the office of Pastor on March 30, 2021, by the Presiding Bishop of The Church of God in Christ, Inc., Bishop J. Drew Sheard, at the homegoing celebration of his father, Bishop George D. McKinney.
Eld. McKinney has been married to the lovely sister Carol McKinney since April 21, 2001. While being a husband and a father of three, he is committed to daily community service
through his work with the Urban Youth Collaborative. This program provides biblical and spiritual direction under student-led bible studies to middle school and high school students throughout San Diego—also supporting the local community through his work with Mayor Todd Gloria and the black advisory board, which brings to surface current issues facing the black community. Pastor McKinney’s cradle-to-grave passion for people has allowed him to serve as Vice President and Co Operations Manager of St. Stephen’s Retirement Center, a senior housing facility development company providing social services, facility management, and site development. A four-generational Church of God in Christ member, he serves the denomination as one of the Deputy Adjutant Generals, promoting service, protocol, worship, and order within the denomination.

Elder McKinney was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in June of 2004 and began serving as the youth Pastor of St. Stephen’s in 2005. With God’s help, this position gave Pastor Glenn the opportunity to mentor, guide, and nurture many young people in the ways of Christ. He was later appointed assistant Pastor in March of 2018 by his late father and served faithfully until his father’s demise. Pastor Glenn continues his father’s legacy by practicing and pursuing Love, forgiveness, and reconciliation and fostering the understanding of a Kingdom mindset.
Glenn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Morehouse College and is pursuing a Master’s in Theological Studies At Columbia Theological Seminary.
